Romanian
Golf History
The first man who ever
played golf in Romania was King Ferdinand I and the first woman was
Queen Mary, in 1923.
In 2004, after being a
prohibited sport in Romania during the communist period, was created the
Romanian Golf Association. Romania`s first golf course was born
on Prahova Valey, in Breaza, designed by the great architect
Andras Peres, with expert help from Ronald Castillo, the champion from
Hawaii.
Breaza is a beautiful town situated on the
Prahova Valley, in a green area with fresh air, perfect for relaxation.
It is also known as the Romanian Davos due to its beautiful scenery and
healthy air. Lac de Verde Golf Complex is among the few
homologated golf courses in Romania
It is the first mountain resort on the Prahova Valley when coming from
Bucharest, only 103 km from the capital of Romania.
It`s history dates back from the 16th century, the town was
said to have been established by a certain Neagoe of Breaza in 1503.
Some Romanian writers were inspired in their works by the beautiful
scenery of Breaza, including Martha Bbescu, the wife of Romanian ruler
Gheorghe Bibescu.
Close by are the towns of Campina with the house of the painter Nicolae
Grigorescu and that of the writer Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu and Ploiesti
with museums like The Clocks Museum.
