Greek historian Xenophon argued that hunting is an asset to society, considering that the recreation promotes the well-being and the health of the hunter. The first laws designed to conserve game animals were instituted in the 13^thcentury, when Kublai Khan, emperor of the Mongols, forbade his subjects to hunt during animal breeding seasons.

The invention of gunpowder in the 14^th century and the perfection of the matchlock rifle in the 15^th century represented a very important moment in the hunting history. The hunting methods became much easier and with better results.
