Tour of monasteries include the most famous and beautiful painted churches of Bucovina, erected since 15th century. The oldest one, Moldovita from 1410, obtained, in 1975, the “Pomme d`Or” (Golden Apple) trophy granted by F.I.J.E.T. for its unique paintings. Voronet is famouse for ‘”blue de Voronet” and for the scene embodied on the western faηade, that of The Judgement Day.

Sucevita is the most complete monastery with regards to architecture and also interior and exterior paintings. Ion Zugravul made the paintings in 1596, using the dominant green colour.

Visit to the Black Pottery manufactory is a chance to admire and buy black pottery objects.

Maramures Wooden Churches were built in the 17th and 18th century without any iron boils.

Hightlights: Merry Cemetery

Route: Sighetul Marmatiei – Sapanta - Baia Mare – Cluj  (290 km)

In the cemetery surrounding the church of Sapanta, the crosses are made of carved and painted wood. The graves are more like flower beds and the crosses themselves rise like big colored flowers. In 1935 a wood sculpture, Ioan Patras, started carving oak crosses for the cemetery. He painted each cross blue, included a scene from their lives and a humorous poem on each.

There are scenes of a woman working at her loom, a barber cutting hair, a woman who operated a distillery, shepherds tending their sheep, etc. An alcoholic shown drinking from a bottle and others who lived a less than ideal life has it displayed for all to see. There are even pictures of automobile accidents including a little girl, aged three.
